This event took place about ten miles north of Pipestone, Minnesota. I was living in the country, on a gravel road at the time, with my husband and five children. We were about three miles due east of Ward, South Dakota. It was late summer, about August 2001, about 7:00 p.m. I know it wasn’t dark yet; it was still daylight.
It was an uneventful day. It was warm, but not overly hot. My husband and I had gone out to the barn to look at our four goats. Our children were in the house. While we were walking back to the house, we suddenly heard an odd noise like something flying fast, but not an engine noise. It was more like the sound a large eagle makes when it is swooping down to catch its prey; it is an eerie sound. At that same instant, we looked up to see a large ball of light race past us, not all that high up in the sky.
It was a very bright white glowing light. I asked my husband if he had seen it, and he said that he did. Just a few seconds later, we saw two military fighter jets, in formation, chasing after it. It was a remarkable thing to see. I couldn’t believe that we had witnessed something like this. The ball of bright white light had been flying mostly east and slightly south. It didn’t take it long to disappear in the distance, as it was moving extremely fast. My husband went in the house. But I stayed outside to see what other things I might see. Maybe ten minutes later, I saw one of the military fighter jets return and fly off to the west. I never saw the second jet; I have no idea what happened to it. I never heard anything about this event in the news, or heard anyone else talk about it, but obviously someone knows about it. Those military fighter jets had to be chasing something. — Lori C., Bonnots Mill, MO
