A facinating book regarding the chupacabra in America.

Author Benjamin Radford

Published by University of New Mexico Press

I keep an ever evolving list of creatures that I would love to one day have as a pet or possible sidekick. The Quitxacotal is numeral Uno (who wouldn’t want a winged serpent God?) Second would be Bigfoot due to numerous viewings of the John Lithgow classic Harry and the Henderson’s. But first runner up is the one creature that might seem a little too creepy to keep around the house; it’s my very own Chupacabra. And not the North American one, I want the original Puerto Rican-winged spiked-back blood sucker itself. Read the rest of this entry »

Visions of the Multiverse

Posted by Fatemag On July - 5 - 2011

Looking for a challenge in the next step of theoretical science writing, Dr. Manly brings the Multiverse, subatomic particles and the Copernicus theories that started to all to the masses.

“Visions of the Multiverse”
Author Steven Manly, published by New Page Books.

Before reading Visions of the Multiverse my only experience with a parallel universe or Multiverse was when Captain Kirk’s evil goatee wearing doppelganger terrorized the Star ship Enterprise. And just like that episode of Star Trek, there are a lot of different colorful theories on the where, how and why of multiple realities. And after 200 scientific publications under his belt, Dr. Steven Manly has assembled a book describing the physics behind those theories and how it all started with Copernicus back in 1540. The book simple in size but thick with science made quick reading with the help of Manly’s tongue-in-cheek writing style honed over the years of teaching physics to college kids.

Without going into too much detail about the theory of multiple Universes, let’s just say Read the rest of this entry »

An exploration of the blending of the senses without the use of psychoactive hallucinogens.

May 2011
Review by Fate Staff

New Page Books • by Maureen Seaberg

Synesthesia is the unique ability to link colors, sounds and shapes into a surreal sensory experience. Basically, certain letters, sound and smells are experienced as swirling symphonies of color depending on the individual.

To be clear, synesthesia is not a handicap or a dysfunction, but the loss of inhibition in distinguishing between the senses. The condition is rare and most people can’t experience synesthesia without psychoactive hallucinogens. So for those of us left wanting, we have lifelong synesthete and New York Times journalist Maureen Seaberg to take us on a journey thru her eyes and ears.

Seaberg describes her own personal experiences of growing up trying to understand a visual sensation that few understood. And while her personal story is the   Read the rest of this entry »

“The Poltergeist Phenomenon” by Michael Clarkson

New Page Books (NJ) 2011, softcover, 255 pages

The Poltergeist Phenomenon is not the usual fare: families terrorized by flying rocks, loud noises, crashing housewares, and other hallmarks of the poltergeist experience. Here you will find ley lines, zero point energy and epileptic teenagers at the center of these disturbances. Pulitzer Prize nominated author and Princeton alum Michael Clarkson, expertly deconstructs poltergeists and their origins. His time working on police investigations and being the author of several books on psychology prepared him for the in-depth analysis of this subject matter.

Clarkson presents the theory that psychokinesis, n Read the rest of this entry »

The Witches’ Almanac: Spring 2011 to Spring 2012

Book Review

December 2010
by FATE Staff

Celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, the folks behind The Witches Almanac are proud to produce their landmark 30th installment.

Founded by Elizabeth Pepper back in 1971, The Witches Almanac has been prognosticating long term weather forecasts, horoscopes and their annual moon calendar non-stop. This year’s addition is specifically dedicated to the stones and the powers of the Earth by its witchy authors. Every page is full of magical drawings that evoke a sense of literature from days gone by.

While the almanac is an indispensible tool for any Wiccan needing to fill important dates from Samhain Read the rest of this entry »

A Night Dream Visit

by Eric Stirnemann

Almost all night or early morning dreams we experience are merely mixed-up and meddlesome thoughts increased in power to dream strength, which we experience out of our memory. We always have an enormous number of memories piled up.

These dreams might be mixed-up or crazy thoughts just naturally becoming active. Most are worthless effusions. I believe a good and healthy dream is very much better. Higher visions may be supernatural inspirations whose origins are hard to define. In the numerous varieties and complications possible, we are confronted with multiple problems.

One night initiated a number of situations whose origin few people ever experience or suspect. They were very orderly situations. But real astral traveling is not like the type of dream described above; it is of more direct action. This type of dream, described as follows, happened only once in my life.

My dream was clear and very beautiful. I was driving my green Mercedes diesel car along a mountain road high up near a ridge after a rain. The road had a few wet potholes but was easily passable. I observed a faraway mountain ridge across the valley. All areas were deeply forested. It reminded me of the Feather River Canyon in California, but the dream did not show the enormous and very involved Read the rest of this entry »

Personal Journeys

by Debra J. Taubenslag, D.C.H.

There comes a time when you just have to practice what you preach. Here I was conducting countless healing sessions for other people, and ignoring my own inner cries. I know what my clients call the safety zone…it’s much more comfortable being unaware than growing in spiritual development. It was time for me to concentrate on me. I knew I had work to do, because I was feeling those unexplainable blues. Of course, we always blame it on our moods or hormones, but I knew better. These feelings were something more that my higher self wanted me to look at, so I did. I met with a fellow hypnotist who believes that there is also a spiritual side to life. My first session produced an array of unexpected characters, and a series of past lives. I saw myself as a pitiful spoiled Southern grandmother who was rejected by her son and daughter-in-law, a frustrated Native American medicine man who procrastinated the feat of constructing a totem pole to initiate war with a neighboring tribe, and a jealous ancient Chinese male who murdered his brother for spite. My ugly past history took me by surprise, but I understood that everyone has a light and dark side.
This initial session gave me the chance to experience what my clients had been experiencing. My primary mode of receiving information was kinesthetic. I would feel things so intensely; I would have a sense of just knowing. Sometimes flashes of visual pictures would come to mind, and sometimes the words would just pour out of my mouth. There was never any kind of conscious thought to what I would say; it would just happen. Many of my clients would tell me that they saw whole scenes quite vividly, or that they clearly heard their own Read the rest of this entry »
