Your Best Tool for Paranormal Investigation

In the past decade or so, an explosion of high tech has changed how paranormal investigations are conducted.  Many investigators have spent thousands of dollars outfitting themselves with an array of gear such as motion detectors, thermal cameras, night vision goggles, electromagnetic field meters, electronic voice phenomena (EVP) devices and more.  Does all this gear make a difference?

The answer is both yes and no.  Sophisticated gear has the potential to capture anomalous data – but it is not foolproof and not guaranteed.  Paranormal phenomena are elusive and not entirely of this dimension.  The investigator who relies solely on equipment is likely to miss a lot of the action.

In fact, the very best tool for paranormal investigation is your own body.  Your five senses and your skin can register far more than most pieces of expensive gear, and your own inborn sixth sense, or gut instinct, will give you more information than a readout from a meter. How to Be a Genius: Think Like Leonardo da Vinci

Posted by reguiley@aol.com On March - 9 - 2012

[This is one of my favorite articles: wisdom for optimum daily living distilled by author Michael

J. Gelb, a creativity and innovation expert, from one of the most influential thinkers of history.

I met Gelb at a conference in Santa Fe, where he gave a presentation on da Vinci. In this fast-

moving Year of the Dragon, we must be in top form to stay ahead of the curve.]

History has many geniuses, people whose thinking, creativity and innovation have shaped lives

for centuries into the future. It may seem at first glance that geniuses are born into their calling

by some combination of heritage and fate. But geniuses can be made, according to a man who

has studied the works and life of one of humanity’s greatest minds, Leonardo da Vinci. Learn to

think like da Vinci and you, too, can harness new powers of brain and mind.

Michael J. Gelb has developed a seven-step plan for daily living that he says will enable anyone

to step into bigger creative shoes. Gelb, a consultant in innovative thinking, is the author of the

best-selling How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci.

“Leonardo da Vinci is the archetype of human potential, self-knowledge and all types of

intelligence,” Gelb said. “His thinking and teaching were similar to Taoism. One of his mottos

was, fix your course to a star, and follow it.”

Leonardo Da Vinci

Da Vinci (1452-1519) lived in Italy during the Renaissance, one of the most fertile creative

periods in history. Titans of art, science, philosophy and literature flourished. Da Vinci stood

above them all. He may be best-known for his art – masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa and

The Last Supper, recognized as two of the greatest paintings ever done – but he also excelled in

science, architecture and invention. He was far ahead of his time.

His ideas were so prolific it is hard to list them all. He conceived of the airplane, helicopter,

parachute, three-speed gear shift, extendable ladder, folding furniture, bicycle, crane, alarm

clock, hydraulic jack, snorkel and more. In addition, he conceived of numerous labor-saving

devices, and an astonishing array of advanced weaponry. He made significant contributions to

anatomy, botany, geology and physics.

How on earth did all this genius pour out of a single mind in a few decades of time? Read the rest of this entry »

Where is the Real Story Behind the Amityville Haunting?

Posted by reguiley@aol.com On October - 5 - 2011

By Rosemary Ellen Guiley

FATE Consulting Editor

The horrible, demonic haunting that drove a family out of a house in Amityville, New York in 1976 ranks as one of the most famous cases in paranormal history. “The Amityville Horror,” as it is known – now a trade-marked term – has been the subject of books, sensational films – and unending lawsuits. Now, says Christopher Quarantino, one of the children involved in the case, there is much more to the story – occult practices conducted in the family — and he has decided to talk about it.

“This isn’t just me coming up with a new twist on the story,” Quaratino told FATE. “This is me telling what I really know.”

Aerieal view of former Lutz home in Amityville. From police files, courtesy of Tim Yancey.

Quaratino, forty-three, was seven years old when his family moved into the cursed house on Long Island, New York, in December 1975 with his recently wed parents, mother Kathy Lutz and stepfather George Lutz, and two siblings, Daniel, nine, and Melissa, five. All three children were Kathy’s by a previous marriage. The Lutzes purchased the empty house because it was a bargain, and they knew the reason why: In 1974, horrible murders had occurred there. A twenty-three-year-old man named Ronnie DeFeo went through the house one night with a .35-caliber rifle and shot to death his parents and four siblings while they slept in their beds. De Feo was convicted of six counts of murder and sent to prison.

Almost immediately after moving in, the Lutz family experienced oppressive and unpleasant phenomena that rapidly escalated over time.  They called in a Catholic priest to bless the home, and unknown voices told him emphatically to get out. Family members were plagued by bizarre swarms of flies, apparitions, noises, weird phenomena, nightmares and depression.

In the late afternoon of January 14, 1976, only twenty-eight days after they moved in, the family was so terrified that they left in a hurry leaving all their belongings behind, with the exception of a few changes of clothing.

The case was investigated by Hans Holzer, demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, members of the American Society for Psychical Research in New York City, and others. The Warrens pronounced the activity demonic in nature.

In the aftermath, book and film rights were sold, and the story became a best-selling sensation. Lawsuits were filed over claims and rights, and went on for years. Skeptics and debunkers criticized the case, but George and Kathy Lutz, who are both deceased now, stuck to their story to the end of their lives. Amityville became a paranormal juggernaut, generating more books and films. As the original story became exhausted, fictional elements increased.

One question often asked is, were the family members targeted as innocent victims by dark forces related to the house, the murders and even the land, or was there something more behind it all? In 2005, upon the release of a remake of the original The Amityville Horror film, Quaratino alluded to an undisclosed paranormal problem brought on by occult rituals and practices, which may have attracted dark forces that followed the family from the Amityville home. “George Lutz brought the troubles on himself (and our family) by dabbling in the occult, it wasn’t just the house that was the problem,” he said. “That’s why ‘it’ followed us.”

Some of the principals involved beyond the family, including some of the investigators, were aware of the occult practices, but the information was never widely known.

Quaratino said he felt compelled to speak out in the wake of announcements of three new Amityville sequel films by three separate movie companies, each adding twists to the story.  However, he will not discuss details while the new films are in production.

Hannibal Classics is making Amityville Legacy in 3D.  The Weinstein Company is developing The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes for theatrical release in January 2012. The Asylum will release Amityville Haunting on DVD in December 2011.  The Asylum is advertising that footage is “real.”  The theme of the film is, the family did not survive, but “recordings” did.

Qauratino said he is weary of Hollywood taking fictional liberties with the story, lives of the family, and his own experiences. He plans his own feature length film to tell the real story as he sees it, especially to a generation probably not familiar with the original case and to the masses that have before them been exposed to the story with all the inaccuracies.

He  is raising funding for his film, starting this Halloween Eve, October 30, with an online pay-per-view “fireside chat” event in which he will tell one real-life creepy story, about the “demons of his past” and his frightening experiences in his present home in Phoenix, Arizona, which seems to be haunted because of a suicide on the property.   The live webcast will air 9pm Eastern, 6pm Pacific, and will thereafter be available on demand.

Quaratino said he has challenged Hollywood that he can tell a creepier story, and is asking the public to weigh in with votes.  For more information, visit www.amityvillehorrorchallenge.com or www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Amityville-Horror-Challenge/164647713600246.

FATE has not contacted others originally involved in the case, pending further disclosures from Quarantino.

August 2011

In this issue:  REINCARNATION is in the news with the Kindle release of one of my books… adventures On the Paranormal Road… upcoming events… Article on author Michael Talbot’s past-life recall that inspired his vampire novel.

I’m back in New England after an extended summer stay in the Pacific Northwest.  Just before I departed, I paid a visit to the ECETI Ranch (Enlightened Contact with Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) near Mt. Adams, located in a paranormal hot zone.  My report on that, and my interview with owner James Gilliland, will be in a future issue of Strange Dimensions.

NEW BOOK RELEASES

I have updated my book on reincarnation and republished it as an e-book titled Rosemary Ellen Guiley’s Soul Journeys: Past Lives & Reincarnation.  It is available in Kindle format only at http://amzn.to/p5sIev

The original title was Tales of Reincarnation. Robert Michael Place designed the smashing new cover from one of his spectacular Tarot cards in his Tarot of the Sevenfold Mystery.

The book has many dramatic reincarnation stories, including quite a few original ones given to me in exclusive interviews.  In addition, it provides a comprehensive, thorough examination of beliefs about reincarnation, scientific investigations, the karmic holdovers of past lives, and how the past can help us lead better lives today and build better lives for the future.  I added a new chapter on spirit communications and psychophysical research to document reincarnation. Ghost of a Suicide at Haunted North Head Lighthouse

Posted by staff On July - 1 - 2011

Located on the West Coast, this isolated lighthouse has a beautiful story to share.

July 2011
by Rosemary Ellen Guiley

Mary Pesonen was only six months away from a brand new life, but even that short amount of time seemed too long for the pain and hopeless that had engulfed her.  Early one morning, she decided to bring an end to everything by hurling herself off a cliff into the Pacific Ocean.  Did she have second thoughts and regrets as she made her fatal plunge?  Perhaps, for her ghost is believed to haunt the grounds where she lived and died, at the North Head Lighthouse near the fishing port of Ilwaco, Washington.

The life and tragic death of Mary Watson Pesonen in 1923 caught my attention during a summer trip to the southwest Washington Coast with my sister, Linda, and brother-in-law, Ted.  Ilwaco lies near the base of a long spit of land on the north side of the immense mouth of the Columbia River, which forms the border between Washington and Oregon.  The coastal waters are treacherous and the bar has dangerous currents and sand bars.  The area is known as “the graveyard of the Read the rest of this entry »

IUFOC: A Spectacular Event

We didn’t want it to end!  The 20th annual International UFO Congress and Film Festival (IUFOC) moved to Phoenix this year (February 23-27) under the new direction of Open Minds Production, LLC, and it was a spectacular event, attended by more than 1500 persons and media from all over the world.  Phyllis Galde and I were on hand to represent FATE and give media interviews. The presentations were excellent, the networking was fabulous, and the setting – the Radisson resort and casino in Fountain Hills just outside of town – was elegant.  In all, this year’s IUFOC was one of the most outstanding conferences we’ve attended in years.

We were especially appreciative of Alejandro Rojas, the co-coordinator of the conference, as well as the editor of Open Minds magazine and the host of their television show.  Rojas served as emcee for the event and all-around point person for every imaginable inquiry.  “It was the largest and one of the best conferences ever for the Congress,” Rojas told us after the closing of events.  “It was a challenge to Read the rest of this entry »

A Short Course on the Djinn

The big news this month is all about the Djinn- the release of The Vengeful Djinn and a new website.

Meanwhile, when I have not been out shoveling the never-ending snow, the winter doldrums have been broken up a bit by visits with demonologist John Zaffis to talk about new collaborations, and a lovely dinner in Manhattan with my editor Bob Gleason, executive editor of Tor Books.  Bob is publishing my forth-coming book with George Noory, host of Coast to Coast AM, on high tech spirit communications – it will be out this fall!  Bob and I discussed ideas for the next projects.  Phil Imbrogno and I worked on new projects, too, that are taking us deeper into interdimensional entity contact territory.  And, I devoted quite a bit of time to working with Christian Day on his first book, The Witches’ Book of the Dead, about necromancy, and poring over the page proofs to the second edition of my Encyclopedia of Vampires and Werewolves, due out in June. In this Issue: How to Create a Portable Altar, Visiting Salem, MA and Fairies.

November 2010
by Rosemary Ellen Guiley

The Halloween season was busier than usual for me this year, with increased travel all over the East and Midwest for lecturing.  I am glad to be home!  I had a real and rare treat this season — Halloween night in Salem, MA.  What better place to be for the Night of the Dead? More than 70,000 people turned out to celebrate, many in eye-catching costumes.  I joined in a Witches Ritual for the Dead on Salem Common, led by Christian Day and Lori Bruno – a very powerful experience.  Christian and I are working on a book on necromancy, and the ritual fit right in with our collaboration.

Upcoming in this month, another rare treat – a 5-day trip to New Orleans with a few of my spookiest friends.  We will stay in the French Quarter, spend time with the Voodoo Queen Bloody Mary, and summon up some spirits.  Vampires, ghosts, witches, spirits, magic and more promise to make this a spectacular trip and some great research as well.
