May 2011
by Rosemary Ellen Guiley

My newsletter has a new name, Strange Dimensions, and soon will have a new look as part of my ongoing efforts to bring you news and information about my work in the paranormal.

I Finally Meet an Ancient Crystal Skull

Wow, was April a fantastic and busy month!  It’s often hard for me to pick a favorite from the variety of my activities, but this time I do have to vote for my experience with the famous crystal skull, Max.  My good friends, Jayne and Chuck Feldman, who live in Maryland, host Max and his guardian, JoAnn Parks of Houston, every year for a day of private readings followed by a lecture by Parks.  I have seen Max and other crystal skulls on TV and at large events, but I had never before had a chance to have a one-on-one with an ancient crystal skull, and it was an amazing communion.  You can read about it in the articles section of this website.

Portal Detector at the Three Chimneys

My research partner and collaborator Philip J. Imbrogno is ever the innovative scientist, and  developed a second-generation “portal detector” this spring for our research of interdimensional portals or doorways, places where different dimensional realities break through to one another.  When portals open, we get paranormal phenomena.

Our portal detector is designed to measure a rain of certain kinds of electrons that, according to quantum physics theory, are produced when dimensional portals open.  The process involves the actions of gravitons, which exist in theory and have yet to be discovered.  A full explanation of our portal detector research is in our forthcoming book Multidimensional Portals, a December release.  I’ll be brief and general in description here.

Phil’s first-gen device is a radiation meter housing modified internally to register the rain of those certain electrons.  We tested it out in a variety of settings last year, and it performed according to theory, registering increases in electron detection that corresponded with real-time EVP produced via a radio-sweep device called the Minibox.  We also discovered that it often functioned as a communications device, with spikes in activity registering in answer to yes-no questions that also registered in EVP.

Phil’s second-gen device is much more sophisticated, with an improved sensor that plugs into a software computer program via USB, capturing the data on graphed statistics of counts per minute.  The data is recorded in RAM, and can be saved onto the hard drive.  We did a few trial runs that showed promise for the device.

I did the first full field test of the “Rad,” as we dubbed it for short, in April at a paranormal investigation event at the spectacular Three Chimneys B&B in Durham, New Hampshire, organized by Join the Investigation, a coalition of NH paranormal investigators under the direction of Chris Loveday, Jeffrey and Lisa Kimball, and Haley Haunted (Loveday has since departed Join the Investigation).  The Three Chimneys, built in 1649, is one of the oldest buildings in America and has a long-standing haunted history, but had never before been formally investigated.  It was a great opportunity to be in on the first investigation and with brand new equipment!

I was joined by fellow CT investigators Paige Malone and Christine Cavar.  The investigation was set up as a rotation of small groups through the most active areas.  I had the best session with the Rad Det in guest room 6, where a man had committed suicide by hanging himself from the beams beneath the ceiling, and in room 3.  Once again, the detector functioned like a communication device.  In Room 6, we kept hearing from a Djinni named ZaZa who has come through many of my real-time EVP sessions since introducing himself last summer at a Ouija session.  ZaZa kept pushing other communicators out.

In room 3, Chris Loveday and Chris Meade, a medium, both tuned in mediumistically to a personality who identified himself as “John,” who died in fighting in World War II but did not seem to know he was dead.  He was quite talkative and answered many yes-no questions via the Rad Det.  I can’t wait to try this new device in more settings!

Haunted Salem

Following the NH investigation, I stopped in Salem, MA, where I visited with my friends Warlock Christian Day and Sicilian Witch Lori Bruno.  Christian sponsored a booksigning at his store Omen for me and my new book Haunted Salem (Stackpole Books), featuring the major public haunted places in the Witch City.  Joining me was my friend and author Lesley Bannatyne with her new book “Halloween Nation” (Pelican), all about Halloween celebrations, history and lore.

Christian makes his debut as an author this fall with his book “The Witches’ Book of the Dead,” coming out from Red Wheel/Weiser.

Haunted Midwest Conference

June 10-11 in Jacksonville, IL

Troy Taylor moves his popular annual Midwest conference to Jacksonville, IL this year after a long run in Decatur, and I am quite excited about the new venue.  The city has an amazing haunted history with plenty of fascinating investigation sites in the area.  Once again, I am a featured presenter (my topic is the Djinn).  Craig Telesha (“Strange Frequencies”) and I will be participating in the city ghostwalk and investigations at the haunted Rectory and Eldred House.  We look forward to reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones.

Troy’s conferences are always top notch, lots of fun and very informative.  Make a reservation to attend at http://www.americanspookshows.com/midwest.html

Research in New Mexico

This year I will travel to northern New Mexico for some field research I have wanted to do for a very long time. For part of the trip I will be joined by my friend and colleague, Christopher O’Brien, author of several books on the weird phenomena that happen especially in the nearby San Luis Valley, which extends through northern NM into Colorado.  The Valley is a first-class portal, one of the most paranormally intense areas in the country, with skinwalkers, ghosts, mysterious creatures, UFOs, aliens, reptilians, Djinn and more.  Chris has documented thousands of reports since 1989 and presents his research in his excellent books Enter the Valley, Secrets of the Mysterious Valley, and Stalking the Tricksters.  In Santa Fe I will meet up with Allan Pacheco, who runs the city’s ghostwalk.  There are some interesting portal areas in the Santa Fe environs.
