Greetings –

Hope this finds you and yours well.

I realize that it is possible to meet a nonhuman being. These encounters are a matter of record. Quite often, it is the physical appearance of these mysterious strangers, beings, and creatures that is our first clue that we are dealing with the extraordinary. But this is not always the case. There are those encounters where nonhumans play human and our understanding of the situation comes “after the fact.” Too little, too late, another opportunity is lost.

It is my fervent desire to engage nonhumans in conversation.

What to say? What to ask? What not to say? What not to ask?

Lately I feel disturbed, as though our world has decided to become a genuine Tower of Babel. Not with a multitude of languages but an overwhelming spewing of beliefs – with each person seeming to think that his or her belief is the only accurate one. And there is a battle of these beliefs. Encouraging others to engage in battle. The battle creates war, frightening or separating or polarizing each other into — not just two warring camps — but many.

Humankind has been aware that it is a part of a larger community of powers and principalities, seen and unseen, physical and nonphysical, since at least the Paleolithic Age (c. 50,000 b.c.), when primitive artists painted images of supernatural beings on the walls of their caves. I was a skeptic in all things paranormal until the death of my beloved, much admired wife Jeanne, when I realized that she was communicating something important to me through our garden angel.

Less than two months after her death from cancer on December l, 1997, an incident happened at our home in Asheville, North Carolina, that caused me to re-evaluate my beliefs. I have now accepted that communication can happen between people who love each other after one of them has left this physical world. On a late afternoon in the early spring of 1972 I was involved in my second auto accident in ten months. Another drunk driver hit my car, but this time the injuries were devastating. Sunday, where I was scheduled to deliver the sermon. There were people behind me that I did not know. As I entered the church, one of the members called to me, “Charlie Brown, it’s about time you got here.” I was 15 minutes early, but they had expected me sooner.

A few minutes later, I was approached by a man who came up behind me. He asked if I was the same Charlie Brown that writes about angels. I told him I didn’t know if I was the only one, but I did write about angels.

“Did you write one about 50 years ago about your brother?” he asked.

I paused in amazement. “Yes, I did,” I replied. I had totally forgotten the story. It appeared in a magazine that I could no longer remember. Read the rest of this entry »
